Slate Matching for Repairs & Restorations
Send us one slate off the roof and we will tell you honestly whether we can match it—colour, size, thickness and weathering.
The problem with matching
A slate roof that is missing forty pieces does not need a new roof. It needs forty slates that look like they have been up there since 1912. Colour is the easy part; the harder variables are thickness, the width-to-length proportion of the original punch, and how far the existing field has weathered away from its quarry colour.
How matching works
1. Send a sample
Ship us one slate from the roof—ideally a broken one you are replacing anyway. Photos alone are rarely enough for colour.
2. We measure and grade
Length, width, thickness, punch position, quarry origin where identifiable, and current weathered colour.
3. We pull candidates
We lay candidates against your sample in daylight and photograph them side by side.
4. You approve
If nothing in the yard is close, we say so and move it to custom sourcing rather than sell you a near-miss.

A physical slate
One piece off the actual roof beats twenty photographs.
A photo of the whole elevation
Shows how much the field has weathered and whether the roof is graduated.
Your count
Repairs under a pallet are welcome. Tell us the real number and we will not oversell you.
The age of the building
Construction date narrows the quarry range considerably.
