Bourgeois Materials and the slate yard.
A Louisiana salvage yard that buys old roofs, sorts them by hand, and sells them to the people building the next hundred years.
How we got here
Bourgeois Materials started as a reclaimed stone and brick yard in Louisiana, supplying flagstone, thin brick and pavers to builders across the Gulf South. Roofing followed the same logic: the best material was already on the buildings coming down, and nobody was saving it properly. Reclaimed Slate Roofing is the roofing side of that yard.
What we actually do all day
We buy roofs. A demolition contractor calls, a church re-roofs, an estate changes hands. We take the slate off or take delivery of it, stack it on edge, ring every piece, cull the cracked and the delaminated, sort by length and thickness, photograph the lot and put it on the ground. Then we sell it to contractors, architects and builders who need exactly that colour.
What we will not do
Sell replicas
No synthetics, no moulded composites, no new tile sold as old.
Clean or refinish
The patina is the product. We do not wash it, seal it or dress the face.
Oversell a near-miss
If we cannot match your roof we say so and try to source it instead.
Hide the batch
You see photographs of the actual pallet before it ships.
The yard
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Material is stacked on edge under cover, sorted by colour and length, and staged for crating. Local customers are welcome to come and look at a lot in person—call first so we can have it pulled and standing when you arrive.
