Why reclaimed passes review
The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards favour repair over replacement and, where replacement is unavoidable, material that matches the original in composition, design, colour and texture. Reclaimed slate of the same era and quarry region satisfies that language in a way no synthetic can.
Tax credit projects
Federal and state rehabilitation credits are reviewed against those same standards. Get the roofing material approved at Part 2 rather than arguing it at Part 3, and keep the batch photographs—they are the evidence that what went on the roof is what was approved.
What we need from you
Three or four sound pieces off the existing roof, photographed and measured, plus the building’s date and location. From that we can usually name the quarry region and tell you whether a match exists.
